The Challenges When Lola moved to AWS so they could build out a self-managed PCI environment, they needed a security tool that would help them achieve PCI compliance and gain visibility into how their internal teams were operating. They settled on the Threat Stack Cloud Security Platform ® because of the unmatched alerting and context it provides, the ease with which it would enable them to achieve PCI compliance, and its ability to integrate into a very DevOps-oriented culture. For the next iteration of their infrastructure after their initial move to AWS, Lola decided to move towards full containerization, leveraging Kubernetes for orchestration. Having used managed platforms like Heroku and ECS in the past, they were now dealing with the need to manage exponentially more data about how containers were communicating with each other and the activity on them than ever before. On top of that, they needed to build a highly elastic and scalable infrastructure without worrying about underlying dependencies while maintaining PCI and continuing to harden their security posture. The Solution Lola initially adopted Threat Stack for the PCI compliance but once they began to move to Kubernetes, there was a quick realization that they would be creating security blindspots. "We've always taken security seriously here," said Katie Paugh, Sr. DevOps Engineer at Lola, "and in any infrastructure architecture project, we know it's easier to build security in from the start rather than have to backtrack and implement it later on."
